PlasmaMD
PlasmaMD is a minimally invasive treatment designed to improve the appearance of fine lines, skin laxity, dull skin tone and sagging skin texture. It is especially helpful for treating the delicate skin around the eyes and mouth that other treatments cannot effectively target.
The way it works is through proprietary ARC technology that directs plasma energy into the air directly in contact with your skin. This sparks a unique reaction that stimulates the skin’s natural renewal process to produce smoother, tighter-looking skin.
Treatments with the PlasmaMD Pen
Your Malibu MedSpa medical aesthetician will apply a topical numbing cream to your skin. Full numbing usually takes about 20 minutes and will be accompanied by a relaxing sojourn in one of our spa treatment rooms. You will have the chance to ask any questions during this time and we will do everything possible to make you feel pampered and comfortable.
The treatment itself feels like a tingly warm sensation on the skin and usually takes between 45-60 minutes. The plasma pen is a handheld device that never directly contacts the skin—it produces ionized charged particles within the air. This plasma energy creates micro-injuries within the dermis, stimulating new collagen and elastin production as well as tightness and firmness from the skin’s collagen layers contracting.
The procedure causes what are known as carbon crusts to form as your skin commences the initial healing process and activates regeneration process deep within. These crusts can last for up to a week—more downtime than many topical treatments, but far less than most advanced cosmetic medical skin treatments.
The Goal of PlasmaMD
The goal of PlasmaMD treatments is to promote the body’s natural healing process and stimulate the production of rejuvenating collagen and elastin within the skin. Clients often notice visible results in the weeks and months following the very first treatment.
Plasma treatment is also known as fibroblast therapy or plasma fibroblasting because of how it stimulates fibroblast cells in the skin.

What to
EXPECT DURING A SESSION
The results from your treatment will continue to develop in the weeks and months after your treatment. By triggering the skin’s collagen and elastin regeneration process, the PlasmaMD catalyzes change on the cellular level. You will likely notice extra smoothness, brightness and tightness and decreased sagging and wrinkling of the skin.
No question is ever unwelcome, and we encourage our clients to ask us anything that may be on their mind.
What happens after a PlasmaMD treatment?
Your medical aesthetician will give you personalized and detailed aftercare treatment instructions along with topicals that may make the healing process go smoother. Once the crusts have fallen off, you can usually resume wearing makeup.
How safe is the treatment?
The PlasmaMD is an FDA Class II Cleared medical instrument that requires training and certification for use. It is a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment that is considered safe for most adult users in good health. All Malibu MedSpa aestheticians who use this technology are fully trained, certified and experienced in its use.
Is there irritation or downtime afterward?
Most of the time there is no irritation and you don’t have to plan for any downtime after your treatment either. Clients with active or cystic acne may want to avoid it—it can worsen the symptoms—but it is otherwise suitable for all types of skin.
Who can have it?
The PlasmaMD treatment is suitable for all types of skin, including extremely light to dark skin types. Your aesthetician will determine whether you are a good candidate for PlasmaMD during your initial consultation appointment.
Where is the PlasmaMD treatment used?
The PlasmaMD treatment is used primarily on the face, but it can be used on other hard-to-treat areas of the body, as well. It is often used around the eye and mouth areas, including the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, lips and smile line areas.
How many treatments do I need?
Do I need a follow up?Some clients need only one treatment to get the results they are seeking, while others may require a second treatment for full results. Your aesthetician will see you for a follow up in 12 weeks to determine whether a second treatment is necessary.
How long do results last?
Outcomes vary, but the average treatment can show lasting results for up to three years.
