Laser Hair Removal
Unwanted hair can be a chore to remove, and many hair removal methods can cause pain, irritation, ingrown hairs, or even skin damage. For some, undesirable hair growth can be a source of deep embarrassment, so many people seek a lasting solution to hair removal.
The good news is that laser hair removal is a long-lasting treatment for semi-permanent hair reduction. Laser hair removal can be an excellent option for those looking to remove undesirable hair in various regions, or those looking to thin and diminish thicker areas of body hair.
Why Get Laser Hair Removal?
Perhaps you are embarrassed by unwanted hair on your face or other regions, or maybe you’re just tired of the constant upkeep of waxing, tweezing and shaving.
Laser hair removal can help you save money and time and save you the embarrassment of unexpected hair growth. It can also help prevent skin irritation and ingrown hairs from less sophisticated hair removal methods.
Laser hair treatments aren’t just used for total hair removal, either. Both women and men seek out laser hair removal techniques to reduce the density and darkness of areas with thick hair growth, as well.
Malibu MedSpa offers laser hair removal on all areas of the body, so you can feel your confident best without the constant worry over depilation.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
What to
EXPECT DURING A SESSION
Laser Hair Removal is a non-invasive process and the discomfort is usually minimal. The sensation feels like mild heat with some pinching, not unlike a rubber band being snapped on the surface of the skin. Some describe the feeling as a warm pinprick, and the heat feeling as not particularly intense.
No question is ever unwelcome, and we encourage our clients to ask us anything that may be on their mind.
How do I prepare for the treatment?
Your medical aesthetician will tell you everything you need to know before your appointment. You will receive custom instructions tailored to your skin and hair type and the type of treatments you will have.
Can I continue to wax, tweeze or shave?
Waxing, tweezing and chemical hair removal must be stopped a few weeks before treatment. You may be instructed to shave 24 hours before your procedure, but you will need to talk to your aesthetician and closely follow directives about whether, where and precisely when to shave. The reason for this is that the hair needs to be at a certain point in the growth cycle for the procedure to properly work.
Can I go to the beach?
Generally, clients are advised to avoid the sun and sunless tanners for at least a week before treatment.
Will the hair be gone afterwards?
There may be a faint burning hair smell during the treatment as the laser vaporizes your existing hair. Not all of the hair will be removed during your treatment—it usually takes several days for it to fall out on its own—but your aesthetician can arrange for hair removal afterward if you desire it.
Does Laser Hair Removal hurt?
After your treatment, you may experience mild discomfort similar to a light sunburn, but many clients experience little to no discomfort at all. Aftercare consists of avoiding the sun and taking over the counter pain medication for any discomfort. Cold compresses can also help alleviate irritation. You may be given topicals to nourish the skin and relieve discomfort, as well.
Who is a good candidate for removal?
The good news is that LHR is appropriate for all skin types. Because the laser targets pigment, the process usually works best for those with light skin and darker hair. Those with light-colored hair or a darker skin color may not see the same benefits as those with a light complexion/dark hair coloration.
Your aesthetician will be able to assess your situation during your initial consultation and let you know whether laser hair removal is right for you. You will also be informed on what to expect, how to prepare and appropriate aftercare procedures.

Is there anything I should avoid using?
Certain topicals and oral medications may need to be stopped before treatment, as well, and many skin treatments, including chemical peels, dermal fillers and Botox, will need to be avoided in the weeks immediately before and after.
