Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning takes deep exfoliation to the next level by removing dead skin cells and fine vellus hairs from the skin’s surface. This treatment helps skin glow, unclogging pores and encouraging skin regeneration for a revitalized look.
One advantage of dermaplaning is that it is a manual exfoliating treatment. That may make it a better option than a chemical exfoliating peel for those with sensitive skin.
What is Dermaplaning?
A dermaplane treatment differs from regular dermabrasion in that it removes peach fuzz (aka vellus hairs) in addition to the top layer of skin, for an even smoother look. This also aids in regenerative stimulation and can be desirable for those who don’t like the look of these fine facial hairs.
The dermaplaning process involves using a No. 10 medical scalpel held at a 45-degree angle to the skin. This safe and effective tool will be used to scrape the skin gently but thoroughly to reveal the soft skin surface below.

What to
Expect During A Session
Your dermaplaning session will be conducted by one of our highly trained licensed aestheticians in the comfortable surroundings of a private treatment room. Each treatment usually takes between 10 and 20 minutes and is finished with a relaxing scalp massage
No question is ever unwelcome, and we encourage our clients to ask us anything that may be on their mind.
Will it make my facial hair grow back thicker?
Experts say dermaplaning shouldn’t make your hair grow back darker or thicker.
Does dermaplaning hurt?
No, it doesn’t. Dermaplaning is a painless procedure that feels like mild scraping because that is basically what it is. The surgical blade is broader and flat to make the process as comfortable as possible. Many clients find the whole procedure very comforting and look forward to the scalp massage afterward, too!
Is there irritation or downtime afterward?
Most of the time there is no irritation and you don’t have to plan for any downtime after your treatment either. Clients with active or cystic acne may want to avoid it—it can worsen the symptoms—but it is otherwise suitable for all types of skin.
How long does the hair stay gone?
Most of the time, the vellus hair will stay gone for several weeks or more. Each person has a different hair-growth cycle, so your results may last for a longer or shorter period. If you are interested in permanent hair removal for problem areas like the upper lip and chin, consider our laser hair removal services.
What is the difference between microdermabrasion and dermaplaning?
The first difference is that dermaplaning removes the fine vellus hairs from the surface of the skin. The second difference lies in the tools that are used—dermaplaning uses a scalpel while microdermabrasion uses a small electrical device. Microdermabrasion combines suction to clear clogged pores with abrasion and pressure to resurface skin. Both are non-invasive treatments that can smooth and improve the skin, but microdermabrasion can cause some irritation after the procedure. Microdermabrasion is sometimes referred to as dermabrasion, especially in medical settings, as well.
Is dermaplaning suitable for everyone?
Dermaplaning is safe and suitable for all types of skin. Those with active or cystic acne are urged to avoid it, and you should probably skip it if you have a cold sore or other wound on your skin.
