Microneedling Treatments in the Athens Area
Malibu MedSpa offers microneedling for our clients in the Athens area. Microneedling is a highly effective skin rejuvenation technique for reducing the signs of aging and sun damage. It also helps improve overall skin tone and texture.
What to is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure. It involves moving microneedles across the skin, creating narrow channels that penetrate into the papillary dermis. These micro-injuries naturally activate the skin’s healing process, stimulating healthy collagen and elastin production.
For this reason, microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy, or CIT. It produces a healing response and increase in collagen just like microdermabrasion, plasma treatments and laser therapies, but it can be easier on the skin and involves less downtime after the procedure.
Microneedling Can Help With A Variety Of Skin Concerns:
• Fine Lines and Wrinkles
• Acne scarring
• Facial scars
• Uneven skin tone or age spots
• Poor skin elasticity or sagging
• Sun damage
• Stretch marks
• Large pores

Malibu MedSpa is dedicated to providing the best in aesthetic medical skincare treatments to our clients in the greater Athens Area.
What to is Microneedling PRP?
Another important benefit of microneedling is that it allows topical treatments to penetrate more deeply. This allows for greater absorption and amplified therapeutic effects from serums and other topical compounds.
One compound noted for its amazing healing effects is your body’s own platelet-rich plasma. Because of this, we also offer microneedling treatments followed by a topical treatment with PRP. You may have heard of this microneedling PRP treatment referred to as a “vampire facial”.
We strive to create a relaxing and spa-like atmosphere so that you will look forward to every visit.

What to
EXPECT DURING A SESSION
The wonderful thing about microneedling is that it requires very little downtime afterward. It causes considerably less tissue damage than most chemical peels, dermabrasion and laser treatments with similarly noticeable revitalizing results.
No question is ever unwelcome, and we encourage our clients to ask us anything that may be on their mind.
Who can have microneedling?
Microneedling is appropriate for most skin types and skin tones. The treatment doesn’t use heat like lasers do, so it can be used on darker skin and carries a lower risk of affecting pigmentation.
Do you need to prepare your skin?
Yes. Before your treatments, you should avoid the sun and avoid irritating topicals or skin treatments.
You will be given active treatment topicals to use in order to properly prepare your skin for the procedure. Apply these in the days or weeks ahead of your treatment according to your aesthetician’s instructions.
Do microneedling treatments hurt?
Microneedling treatments are not known for being particularly painful, but the discomfort level may increase with more aggressive treatments. Treatments to alleviate fine lines, mild scarring or light stretch marks will not be as intense as those for acne scars, wrinkles or skin retexturing.
Topical numbing will be applied before deeper microneedle treatments, or you can request it if you are worried about discomfort.
Is microneedling safe?
Microneedling is a safe and well-tested treatment and the RenuPen is one of the safest microneedling devices on the market. It uses disposable sterile needling cartridges and completely sealed components to eliminate any risk of cross-contamination.
Carefully controlled needle depths and speeds allow for complete comfort and safety during the procedure, and the micro size of the wound channels means they heal within a few hours. This makes the risk of any kind of post-treatment infection highly unlikely. Malibu MedSpa closely follows safety and sterility protocols throughout all stages of your microneedling treatment.
Is microneedling with PRP safe?
Yes. The blood draw is performed by a registered nurse and processed according to safe and established PRP extraction procedures. And because the PRP comes from your own blood, there’s little chance of cross-contamination or infection.
Malibu MedSpa closely follows all clinical safety and sterility protocols throughout every stage of your microneedling PRP treatment.
How long does it take to see results?
You should begin to see results after your first treatment, but for maximum benefits, you will probably need an average of 4 to 6 treatments. Microneedling sessions are usually scheduled 4 to 6 weeks apart, but the number of treatments and their spacing will be determined based on your skin condition and improvement goals.
Your skin will continue to improve for the next 6 to 12 months after completing your microneedling course of treatment.
What is the downtime after treatments?
The downtime for microneedling is minimal, but you may see some redness in the 12-48 hours after your treatment. Most people can return to work or social activities the same day as they have their treatment.
How long do treatments take?
Most regular microneedling treatments take under 30 minutes, but you will need to schedule extra time for microneedling with PRP. Your aesthetician will advise you on how long your treatment will take and give you detailed instructions when you schedule.
